Coat Phenotype: The Selkirk Rex is known for its curly coat. Cats with one copy of the gene have a wavy coat, while those with two copies of the gene have a more tightly curled coat.
Samples Accepted: Blood, Buccal Swabs
Gene Information: KRT71
Test Information: This mutation test identifies a single base change in the KRT71 gene. This trait is autosomal dominant. The mutation is in the same gene as the Devon Rex and Sphynx mutations, but is dominant to them both. Cats with heterozygous for the Selkirk Rex mutation have wavy hair, and will pass the mutation on to 50% of their offspring. Cats homozygous for the Selkirk Rex mutation have curly hair, and will pass the mutation on to all of their offspring.
