Marker Types

The use of STR marker profiles to determine DNA identity ('genetic fingerprinting') is one of the oldest applications of molecular genetics.
generatio has been involved in this field since the beginning (1998) and has successfully established and continuously developed the largest dog DNA-based programs for parentage assurance.
We support 2 different sets of markers, which are used alone or in combination, depending on the DNA program.
The profiles differ in the markers used and their number.

 

With the introduction of SNP array typing, the transition to this marker class will take place.

STR Marker Sets

We have been using the GO set of markers since 2001, which was designed by and is used only by generatio.

We have established it for the DNA program of the German Shepherd Dog Association (SV) and optimised it for this breed. In addition to the SV, the Dobermann Club and the Pudelpointer Club also use the GO-Set.

The ISAG marker set, which is now in common use, was first introduced in 2006. We use it in most of the DNA programs that were set up in the following years.
If the ISAG marker set is not sufficiently informative in its basic form, we add markers from the GO set to the routine typing to ensure clear assurance of parentage.

International comparability

Use of the ISAG marker set allows profiles to be compared to those run in any other lab.

Breeds for which we use the GO set in the DNA programme can also have the ISAG

marker set performed using the stored sample.

Use of STR profiles

Using these marker sets, STR profile is unique, i.e. it will almost certainly not occur again in the same combination. The profile represents the genetic identity of the animal.

 

The two alleles of an STR marker originate respectively from the mother and the father of the examined animal. In the parentage assessment, we match the ID profiles of offspring, mother and father and check whether the alleles of the offspring can be derived from the alleles of the parents.

 

The individual alleles also provide us with the information we use to calculate the genomic diversity value of an animal. Rare alleles represent parts of the genome that are not very common in the population.

 

 

If you intend to submit the test results to your breed club, please check beforehand whether a veterinarian or another party must take the sample to verify the identity of the animal.

If this is the case, please have the veterinarian check the chip identity of the animal and confirm it on the submission form with a practice stamp and signature.

Zur Untersuchung können als Proben Blutröhrchen mit EDTA, Blutkarten (GOcards®), Abstriche und Haarwurzeln eingereicht werden. Alternativ können Sie eine Archivprobe aktivieren, sofern die Rasse Ihres Tieres das zulässt.

Falls Sie vorhaben, die Testergebnisse bei Ihrem Zuchtverein einzureichen, überprüfen Sie bitte vorher, ob ein Tierarzt die Probe entnehmen muss.

Ist dies der Fall, lassen Sie von diesem bitte die Chip-Identität des Tieres prüfen und im Einsendeformular mit Praxisstempel und Unterschrift bestätigen.
